Dairy Farmers Thick & Creamy yoghurt relaunch event

This post is sponsored by Nuffnang.

Finally we’re getting a bit of well deserved sunshine! This beautiful weather makes me feel like I should be eating healthier and getting up earlier in the mornings. Something I haven’t done for quite some time.

It came at a great time too as Dairy Farmers Thick & Creamy yoghurt relaunch was held at the Collingwood Children’s Farm on a beautiful sunny morning, an event I was fortunate enough to have attended a few weeks ago.

Based on customer feedback, Dairy Farmers has reformulated their Thick & Creamy range with an even thicker and creamier consistency but without the nasties like artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and no gelatine either. With a fat level of just 8%, you can enjoy this great yoghurt as a healthy breakfast, dessert or snack.

A well formed gentle yoghurt making process is used during production to ensure that great texture and flavour is maintained. The best fruit has been used in the making of these yoghurts as well as an overall higher fruit content so you can see and taste the difference. I certainly did.

Our day started off with a warm greeting from the staff at Nuffnang who organised the event and then straight on to some delicious yoghurt tasting plus fresh orange and apple juice in cute jars and my favourite paper straws.

The new gourmet yoghurt range includes 8 new flavours in 2 sizes of 150g and 600g tubs. The flavours include Field Strawberries, Original Sweetened, Field Blueberries, Mango & Passionfruit, Lemon Cream, Yellow Box Honey, Caramelised Fig and Raspberry & Coconut.

150g tubs of some of these great flavours were waiting on a table for us when we walked in. It was very difficult to choose which flavour to try as I didn’t have enough stomach space to try all of them. The one that stood out for me was the caramelised fig as it’s quite different to any other flavours available on the market. I was totally right in choosing this flavour.

It was sweet but not overly so and tasted distinctly of delicious figs.

We were allowed to bring a partner but since Yuye had to look after our shop, I brought my friend Michelle along. She wanted to try the raspberry and coconut which was also fantastic. It was stronger in raspberry flavour as I first put it in my mouth and then the coconut flavour followed.

The event was hosted by Alana Lowes, Masterchef contestant from Season 3. Finishing third during that season, Alana has been keeping herself busy, appearing in magazines, TV shows and lots of events like this one and even started her own spicy sauce range which is available at Coles supermarkets. Check out her website if you’re interested in seeing what she’s up to at http://www.alanalowes.com.au.

Some of you might already know, the Collingwood Children’s Farm is full of animals of all sizes and is a great place for a family outing, especially when little ones are involved. Even at my age, I had heaps of fun. There were chickens, ducks, goats, cats, huge guinea pigs and even cows on the premises. Most of them roam freely under your feet. The only thing I had to be wary of was stepping on poop!

Apart from all the animals, there are also lovely gardens and edible plants everywhere. It’s perfect for a morning stroll with the family.

After Alana’s introduction, we were whisked away to our first event for the day – milking Biddy the cow! I admit, I was as excited as most of the children there as I had never seen a cow being milked in front of me before. Biddy was quite big but very tame and all she did during the milking and photo taking (which involved a lot of kids as you can imagine) was eat hay.

The Children’s Farm was a perfect setting for the Dairy Farmers event where 2 big long tables were set up beside a barn out in the open. The area was decorated with fresh fruit and veggies and of course a lot of yoghurt. It felt like we were out in the country, even though it was in the middle of Abbotsford.

I was a bit worried about the weather with rain just the night before, but it was a perfect day.

I was also able to meet the faces behind many blogs I had been following for a long time and others who I had met before.

There wasn’t just yoghurt I can assure you. Freshly brewed coffee was available as well from the most lovely little blue truck and it was beautifully decorated as well to fit the surroundings.

We all enjoyed a prepared brunch including green egg tarts with jamon, roasted vine tomatoes in buttery puff with basil pesto and Farmhouse bacon and egg roll with brioche roll filled with bacon, spiced tomato relish, dreamy scrambled eggs, baby spinach and aioli.

And croissants with fresh vine tomatoes, Heidi Tilsit and basil, and much more, all using fresh local produce.

Other than the DIY yoghurt and muesli, we also had the choice of having yoghurt smoothies including the caramelised fig yoghurt smoothie with banana, honey and cinnamon as well as the strawberry yoghurt smoothie with spiced berry compote. Michelle and I got one of each to try and they were just deliciously smooth and thick! So much so that it made me quite full.

My favourite though was the Dairy Farmers Lemon Cream Yoghurt layered cheesecake with muesli, biscuit base and citrus salad which was creamy with a little zing from the citrus.

At the conclusion of the meal, Alana taught us how to make this great dish. The recipe for this dish is also included as a recipe card at the end of this post.

Here’s a video that was put together on the day.

As we were given a bag of goodies to take home, I decided to do my own take on the recipe using Dairy Farmers Mango & Passionfruit yoghurt. Everyone said it was delicious and it looked fantastic too and best of all, it was very easy and fast to make. It really is a perfect start to the day, sitting outside in the sunshine and enjoying one of these little yoghurt muesli cups.

Mango & Passionfruit Yoghurt with toasted Muesli
Makes 4 serves (or 5-6 if you want snack sizes)

Here’s 2 more recipe cards that Dairy Farmers has prepared for you as inspiration for using their products.

Thanks to Dairy Farmers Thick & Creamy we were able to have a great morning filled with great food, great company and a vitamin D boost from all the sunshine. I’m loving the new gourmet yoghurt flavours and look forward to trying all the flavours I missed out on that day.

I was finally able to clean up my photography area as well and this has inspired me to make some great recipes in the future so watch this space!

I like them all but Lemon is the best – why discontinue it?

Also, why can’t I find this on Dairy Farmers Website?
