Henry and the Fox, Melbourne

by Jenny @ Ichigo Shortcake on December 13, 2012

I realised I’ve left writing about Henry and the Fox until a bit too late. Their entire menu had changed since my visit but it would be such a waste to not blog about the place that I decided I’d go ahead and write about my experiences anyway. I might write an updated post after [...]

Bendigo Street Milk Bar, Burnley – nostalgia meets hip cafe

by Jenny @ Ichigo Shortcake on December 10, 2012

The words ‘milk bar’ conjures up a lot of childhood memories. During a period of time in primary school, milk bars were my best friends. On the way to and from school and Chinese school, I’d always stop by one of these with a few friends to buy gobstoppers, red skins, Freddo frogs and the [...]

Helados Jauja, Carlton – premium gelato

by Jenny @ Ichigo Shortcake on December 7, 2012

It’s really feeling like summer lately in Australia and like I said in my previous post, I’m not getting any of that beautiful sunshine here in China. The weather’s been in the high 20s and even high 30s in Melbourne on some days and it’s only just December. One thing that I’m sure many people [...]

Mango Sorbet & an update

by Jenny @ Ichigo Shortcake on December 6, 2012

I’m currently in China so I won’t be able to write all that much in the next few weeks, especially when I have no internet, however I will endeavour to write as much as I can. I seem to always be in China though, and always miss out on the best time of the year [...]

Wabi Sabi Garden, St Kilda

by Jenny @ Ichigo Shortcake on November 29, 2012

The Japanese culture heavily embraces Buddhism and thus Buddhist teachings. One of the concepts that was derived from its teachings is the acceptance of all things ‘imperfect, impertinent and incomplete’, also known as ‘wabi sabi‘ in Japanese. Wabi sabi is an aesthetic that considers imperfect things beautiful, such as an unfinished, rough or unsymmetrical object, [...]

Pugg Mahones Irish Pub, Carlton

by Jenny @ Ichigo Shortcake on November 25, 2012

As I’m the ‘foodie’ in the group, people always turn to me for suggestions and ideas on where to eat. But in actual fact, even though I am a ‘foodie’ I am quite indecisive. It always makes me nervous when they ask me these questions since what if my suggestions can’t live up to their [...]

Two Rivers Green Tea & a giveaway!

by Jenny @ Ichigo Shortcake on November 20, 2012

I’ve mentioned in previous posts that I can’t live without matcha (Japanese powdered green tea), similar can be said for all green teas in general. I love drinking tea of any nature and any flavour including black teas, but my favourite would always be leafy green tea, especially Japanese sencha.

The Green Refectory, Brunswick

by Jenny @ Ichigo Shortcake on November 18, 2012

Ever since I turned foodie, my liking for all things vintage has soared through the roof, to the point where I wanted my whole house decorated with ancient furnishings and decorations collected from op shops and junk yards. I loved everything with peeling paint and rusty metals and rustic wood that had been worn with [...]

Green tea (matcha) ice cream

by Jenny @ Ichigo Shortcake on November 15, 2012

Apologies for the periods of silence lately, there’s just been so much on my mind and there has been a lot of new and exciting things happening in my life. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to regular blogging soon. The weather has been scorching hot lately. I love the sunshine and the good [...]

Patricia Coffee Brewers, Melbourne

by Jenny @ Ichigo Shortcake on November 10, 2012

I think every Melbournian would agree with me that there’s really no shortage of great coffee joints here. We’ve developed such an astounding coffee culture that I wouldn’t be surprised if travel agencies start adding coffee tours to their Melbourne site seeing repertoire, if it hasn’t been done already. In fact, I think that would [...]
